California, which is the teachers unions who have gotten

a little too big for their britches and a little too

powerful Rebecca. Rebecca friedrichs, who was an

author. She was an advocate and she's
00:00:29
gone. On to the Supreme Court with a
00:00:31
case, we're going to talk about all of that tonight.

say that the so-called teachers unions aren't really teachers at
00:00:45
all. We can talk about that later,

So why don't you tell us a little bit about your backstory

who you are. So people know who have never
00:00:55
heard of you before so we can get started there.
00:00:59
Sure thing. Well, I taught Elementary School
00:01:01
for 28 years in Southern California.
00:01:03
I would still be teaching if the classroom haven't gotten so
00:01:06
corrupt by the Union's. I taught kindergarten through
00:01:10
fourth grade. I miss my students so much.
00:01:12
It hurts. Absolutely loved teaching knew.
00:01:15
I wanted to be a teacher from age 12, And my husband also was
00:01:19
a professor 42 years and both of us ran into something called the
00:01:25
teacher unions that we were both forced to fund as a condition of
00:01:29
employment. And the union was always one
00:01:33
hundred percent of the time on the opposite spectrum of us as
00:01:37
teachers. We wanted to do what was right
00:01:39
for the students. We wanted to teach well, we
00:01:41
wanted to work hard and the unions were on the opposite of
00:01:44
that, they did things that were harmful to the children.
00:01:47
Ha I'm full to our community to our country and they reward
00:01:51
laziness and all kinds of problems.
00:01:54
And they also are, were promoting a sexualized agenda,
00:01:57
in our schools, a radical Marxist agenda in our schools.
00:02:00
So my husband and I both ran headlong into that.
00:02:04
So, I would say about a little more than halfway into my
00:02:07
career. I decided to step up as a union
00:02:10
rep, because I thought I have to pay these people.
00:02:12
So, I might as well become a wrap and have a voice, and I was
00:02:16
shocked. What I learned?
00:02:17
The inside as a teacher rep for three years, I served on as the
00:02:22
secretary on my local union. And what I discovered was that
00:02:25
the local, the teachers agreed with me.
00:02:27
They were good people, they cared about the kids.
00:02:29
They didn't want to push a radical agenda.
00:02:31
They didn't want their dues going to politics, but they were
00:02:34
all too afraid and didn't know what to do to push back.
00:02:38
So, I started pushing back and it was basic basically, like,
00:02:41
banging my head against the wall.
00:02:43
The Union's don't want to be reformed.
00:02:45
They are who they are. There they are.
00:02:47
A Socialist-slash-communist organization that does not
00:02:52
represent teachers. They use teachers as pawns to
00:02:55
fund a very radical agenda. And if you have some teachers
00:02:58
out there tonight, I'm not talking about you, if you're a
00:03:01
great teacher, we love you. And we want to help you to
00:03:03
understand that you've been captured, your professions been
00:03:06
captured by these unions. So because of that, after I
00:03:10
served as a rep, it I found out that I couldn't make a
00:03:13
difference from the inside because the unions didn't want
00:03:16
to be changed. They bullied me.
00:03:17
Self. They bullied the other teachers,
00:03:19
who tried to make a difference on the inside?
00:03:22
I've teacher friends who've been spit upon by union leaders.
00:03:25
Booed off the platform, they walk try to walk back to their
00:03:28
seat and be blocked by a big bully who man, you know, who
00:03:32
would block their passage. So the unions are they use Mafia
00:03:35
tactics to terrorize? Good teachers and so, because I
00:03:39
couldn't make a difference as a union rep, and I couldn't
00:03:42
couldn't, you know, stop their behavior.
00:03:45
As a teacher, I started writing Ting editorials to expose them
00:03:49
for who they really are started out in 2012.
00:03:52
And then in 2013, we filed a lawsuit 10, California teachers.
00:03:56
I was the lead plaintiff, our case was called friedrichs
00:03:59
versus California. Teachers Association.
00:04:01
We not only sued them, but we sued the Nea, the National
00:04:04
Education Association and our locals.
00:04:06
And we sued to stop forced unionism for all teachers and
00:04:10
government employees in the United States of America.
00:04:13
And eventually there was a win in June of 2018.
00:04:16
So the Biggest news flash, you need to know is if you're in a
00:04:19
government Union, you don't have to pay them anymore.
00:04:22
And your government Union is most likely using your dues to
00:04:25
push a very radical agenda. That is your very most likely
00:04:29
against and the gender that harms children, and that is
00:04:32
against our liberties. So, so, that's that's the quick
00:04:36
story. It's not a funny story as a
00:04:39
horrible story, as I said, I've been reading your book and but
00:04:42
I'm hoping you'll share what you can about some of those actual
00:04:46
little stories that have happened a long.
00:04:47
On the way that are horrific, there was there was one story
00:04:51
that I was reading that sort of, kind of propelled you or one
00:04:55
story in an article. It was regard.
00:04:58
It was right around the like there was a recession and it was
00:05:01
the Great Recession and like, all the teachers got together.
00:05:04
And you said, hey, we're going to protect all the teachers by
00:05:07
taking a pay cut and then the union said, what to you, too?
00:05:13
Yeah, so I was a union rep at this time representing my fellow
00:05:17
teachers. And it was during the Obama
00:05:19
Administration with a horrible crash in the economy.
00:05:22
And we were told that we weren't the the district was not going
00:05:27
to lay off the ineffective. Teachers or the abusive
00:05:30
teachers, they were going to lay off all the new teachers because
00:05:33
the unions pushed for something called last in first out.
00:05:36
So you could be the worst teacher in the district.
00:05:38
You keep your job just because you've been there a long time,
00:05:40
you could be an abuser and keep your job.
00:05:42
So all these incredible teachers were about to lose their job.
00:05:45
One of them had been my student teacher.
00:05:47
Several of them, I had been mentoring three of them had
00:05:51
together brought up, our district writing scores in
00:05:54
fourth grade. Just he brought them up in a
00:05:57
huge way. They should have been rewarded.
00:05:59
They were all going to be laid off because of this downturn in
00:06:02
the economy. So as their union rep, I went to
00:06:04
the teachers on my campus and I said, hey, during a meeting.
00:06:07
What do you think about taking a small pay cut?
00:06:10
It was 3%. We were the highest paid
00:06:12
District in the county at that time, Orange County.
00:06:14
We can take a three percent pay cut it would save all.
00:06:17
Jobs. Nobody would be laid off.
00:06:19
If we keep class sizes down, we worked in a low-income District
00:06:23
to Title One District. So this would be better for our
00:06:25
students small class sizes and a lot of our families had taken
00:06:29
pay cuts and had moved in with Grandma and Grandpa because they
00:06:31
couldn't afford their rent. So I said, look, this is good
00:06:34
PR. We're standing with our
00:06:35
community, literally by taking a small, cut the teachers were
00:06:39
with me. They said, yes, this is the
00:06:41
right thing to do. So I took it to the union and
00:06:45
literally, I nagged force. Six months, I'm a middle child
00:06:48
of five. I connect, so over and over for
00:06:51
six months, I was just, you know, look this is what the
00:06:53
teachers want. This is good for the students.
00:06:55
I talked to the superintendent, the district said they could do
00:06:57
it. If we took this small cut, they
00:06:59
can save all the jobs, the union, every time they said, oh
00:07:03
no, the teachers don't want this.
00:07:05
I said, you don't understand. I asked the teachers, I said,
00:07:08
how about I write a Survey Monkey, you can send it to any
00:07:11
email address. You want the teachers answer?
00:07:13
Yes, we want to do this or know where we don't if 51 percent say
00:07:17
no. I'll back off, I won't say
00:07:19
another word but it's 51 percent say we want to take the small
00:07:22
cut and save jobs and keep class sizes down and stand in
00:07:25
solidarity with our community. Then we move forward.
00:07:28
Do you know? They wouldn't let me make create
00:07:29
that SurveyMonkey. They wouldn't take a vote, they
00:07:31
wouldn't let us talk to the whole staff of the whole
00:07:34
District about it. Here's what they said to me.
00:07:37
The president of our Union said Rebecca, don't worry about those
00:07:41
teachers, who are going to use lose their jobs, the Union's
00:07:44
going to take care of them, we're going to give them a
00:07:46
seminar on how How to get unemployment benefits?
00:07:50
They were dead serious. These teachers were paying a
00:07:52
thousand dollars a year to be represented by this supposed
00:07:56
Union. And this Union allowed every one
00:07:58
of those teachers to be laid off.
00:08:00
One of them was pregnant lost your medical insurance.
00:08:02
All of them were just totally demoralized.
00:08:05
They thought why doesn't the district like they blamed it on
00:08:07
the district? How come the district?
00:08:09
And I said, whoa whoa whoa, it wasn't the district.
00:08:12
It was your union. I was there.
00:08:13
I tried to fight for you. That Union wouldn't go for it.
00:08:16
The district went for it. 100%. Percent.
00:08:18
So that's what the Union's really doing.

They're chasing great, teachers out of the job, not standing in
00:08:23
solidarity with teachers, you know, and it's just a moral and
00:08:28
that's just one of a thousand stories.
00:08:30
I could tell you that. I faced as a union rep or just
00:08:34
as a teacher. I think we're speechless
00:08:40
literally. Yeah, yeah.
00:08:43
It's just crazy that they were like, you know, don't worry
00:08:47
about it. Will, you know, have to worry
00:08:48
about trying to save your jobs and then in the end they're
00:08:51
like, actually just we're going to teach you how to get
00:08:53
unemployment. So we're not actually going to
00:08:55
save your jobs, you can go get unemployment talk to us a little
00:08:59
bit about this Supreme Court case that I think really kind of
00:09:03
elevated you and your. Cause what What happened there?
00:09:08
Kind of explain, I read a little bit about it and this idea of
00:09:13
like an agency shop or something like that with unions, explain a
00:09:17
little bit of that so people know what was going on with
00:09:20
that. Sure.
00:09:23
So all teachers that were in a unionized school, which is
00:09:26
basically all public schools in the United States and every
00:09:29
government employee in a union and just so people have a good
00:09:32
understanding. The DMV is unionized the VA, the
00:09:35
CDC. You wonder why?
00:09:36
They're so, Corrupt, they're unionized the doj.
00:09:39
The FBI, you name the three letter agency.
00:09:41
There's people within that agency that are unionized.
00:09:44
So we have, you know, millions and millions of Americans are
00:09:48
paying these government unions. And most of them are highly
00:09:50
corrupt and so agency fees was Which is so corrupt.
00:09:58
So there was a man, like myself, his name was mr.
00:10:00
Abood and in 1977, he took a case to the US Supreme Court.
00:10:04
He was a teacher and he sued Detroit Board of Education to
00:10:07
try to stop union dues. He didn't want to be unionized,
00:10:11
he wanted to do, what was right for the children.
00:10:13
Well, he lost and the Supreme Court made a decision that well,
00:10:17
mr. Abood is right.
00:10:19
That people shouldn't have to fund the politics of the Union,
00:10:22
but since the union has Monopoly, We bargaining control,
00:10:26
by the way, they got the Monopoly bargaining control by
00:10:29
asking for it and manipulating the system, the legislature, the
00:10:33
judicial system to get that power to have the Monopoly
00:10:36
bargaining control. So in other words, none of us
00:10:39
can bargain for ourselves only be the union that's assigned to
00:10:43
you can bargain for you, whether you like them or not.
00:10:45
So the Supreme Court tried to to make it a split kind of in the
00:10:50
decision they said the unions have a monopoly bargaining
00:10:53
control so you have to Everyone has to pay them but you don't
00:10:57
have to pay their politics that's not right.
00:10:59
So we're going to create something called agency fees.
00:11:02
Here's how it worked. So the union would tell you that
00:11:05
nobody had to be a member and nobody had to pay dues.
00:11:09
Well, technically, that was true, but everybody had to
00:11:12
accept their representation and everybody had to pay agency
00:11:16
fees. The difference between dues and
00:11:18
fees. When I first started teaching
00:11:20
was about $50 a years, was paying hundreds of dollars in
00:11:23
dues, like 700 That time and saving about 50 being an agency
00:11:28
fee. Payer, I had no vote, I couldn't
00:11:30
go to meetings, I didn't have a voice, nothing but I still had
00:11:33
to pay these people. So we thought that was a very
00:11:36
corrupt system because the Supreme Court allowed the unions
00:11:40
to decide what they're spending on politics and what they're not
00:11:43
spending on politics and of course they said oh we're only
00:11:47
spending this very small amount on politics while they're giving
00:11:50
billions of dollars to Democrat campaigns all around the
00:11:54
country. Tree.
00:11:55
And the other thing we realized as employees was collective,
00:12:00
bargaining itself in the public sector is political because when
00:12:05
you're using taxpayer dollars, so I was paid by taxpayers as a
00:12:09
teacher and the my dues then were paid by taxpayers.
00:12:12
And when you're using taxpayer dollars to make decisions on how
00:12:16
much teachers are going to pay be paid or how much is going to
00:12:19
go into the school budget, instead of a park or, you know,
00:12:23
whatever, whatever the the cat. Taxpayer dollars are being used
00:12:27
toward. That's a political decision.
00:12:29
So our argument was one hundred percent of government employee.
00:12:34
Dues are political are being used for political purposes.
00:12:38
So I first started, as I said, writing editorials, to expose
00:12:42
the Union's for who they really are because they don't really
00:12:45
represent teachers or other government employees.
00:12:48
They're just a massive political path.
00:12:51
Basically. And, you know, use use us and
00:12:55
The government funding, that pays us to bring great damage to
00:12:59
the country. So we decided to bring a case
00:13:03
and move it toward the US Supreme Court in order to
00:13:07
overturn that 1977 abood decision.
00:13:11
So abood became president so no court in the country can rule
00:13:15
against the boobs. So no one could free anybody
00:13:18
from Forced agency fees or forced pain, forced union, dues
00:13:23
unless the Supreme Court overturned, Turned that
00:13:25
precedent. It's very rare for the Supreme
00:13:27
Court to overturn a precedent, but it was a bad precedent and
00:13:30
it was unconstitutional. So our case sought to overturn
00:13:34
that precedent and it was pretty remarkable.

We are lawyers said look to the lower courts.
00:13:42
They said look you can't do anything for our clients.
00:13:45
Are a plainness because you can't rule against the Supreme
00:13:47
Court precedent. So please just let us move on
00:13:50
rule against us and let us move toward the US Supreme Court.
00:13:53
They did that. We got through the local Courts
00:13:55
in about eight months. We got to the ninth Circuit
00:13:57
Court of Appeals and about eight months which is miraculous and
00:14:01
we are cases heard at the US Supreme Court in January of
00:14:04
2016. A majority of the justices
00:14:07
agreed with us that collective bargaining in the public sector
00:14:11
is political all the time. So, 100% of government union,
00:14:16
dues that they collect from from government employees, it's all
00:14:20
used for politics. So we had the favor of a
00:14:24
majority of the Justices and agreeing with that.
00:14:27
And we were really thrilled about that.
00:14:28
Because we believe it's unconstitutional to force
00:14:31
government employees, to pay Union.
00:14:32
And they no longer have to Yeah, that's sort of similar to.
00:14:40
I've done some a little bit of work on this first amendment
00:14:42
stuff in terms of the the like the yet the Janice decision and
00:14:45
unions and freedom of Association, not being forced to
00:14:49
pay union dues but going back to specifically, teacher unions,
00:14:53
like it's insane and you nailed it that this idea of like we're
00:14:58
we as taxpayers pay Public Schools, pay salaries, those
00:15:04
salaries are, then that, Chunk of that, goes back to the
00:15:07
Union's who then turn around and donate back to Democrats who
00:15:13
then write the laws. That then it's just like this
00:15:16
horrible, vicious cycle and more and more people just, don't know
00:15:20
about it in California. I don't think people realize
00:15:23
this horrible vicious cycle. This this sort of inbreeding
00:15:27
between the unions and the Democrats.

It's just, it's really horrible. And I don't, I think people more
00:15:34
people need to know about it because If they knew what their
00:15:36
tax dollars were going to and how this is all being funded, a
00:15:40
lot of people probably would wake up and go like you know
00:15:44
what where's more are my tax dollars going to am?
00:15:46
I literally just giving money to fund Democratic campaigns is my
00:15:51
tax dollars going to fund Democratic campaigns and you can
00:15:56
always follow the money whenever it comes to anything in
00:15:58
California. Follow the money 9 times out of
00:16:02
10, it always ends up back at a union.
00:16:04
So, I think, You nailed it that it is sort of this weird
00:16:07
actually vicious cycle. Yeah.

And I'd love to address what you just said.

Just to let's say there's some Democrats with me tonight.

Look, we're not talking about your normal classical Democrat

out there. You know somebody who voted for
00:16:24
JFK years ago, somebody who shares good values but just

happens to be a Democrat. We're talking about radicalized
00:16:31
people who have a truly, a communist agenda.

They want to sexualize little children, they They are pushing
00:16:41
an agenda that there's more than two Sexes.

That, you know, there's a, an infinite number of genders and
00:16:46
you can change your gender every day.

They're pushing critical race Theory, which is a Marxist.

Theory is basically divide and conquer.

And I could go on and open borders.

Defund, the police abolish I Sanctuary cities.

This is all pushed by the so-called teacher unions and

their Democrat allies. So these aren't I know a lot of

classical Democrats who are against all of that stuff.

So these Your people who are far left radicals, who do not love
00:17:13
our constitutional Free Republic, they do not believe in
00:17:16
our constitution, they want to change our country.

Obama said it fundamentally changed.

Why would you fundamentally change the greatest Republic?

That's ever existed the Sprott, the most freedom, because you're

a communist, your remarks, assistant socialist, whatever

you want to call yourself. So, that's the thing that people

have to understand is the, the sorts of politicians That the

unions are actually supporting are these.

Radical left type of people here in California the Union's.

I wouldn't even say the Democrats.

The unions have a 2/3 plus super majority in our state

legislature. And all you have to do is look

at the bills that they bring forward in that they pass in

this state. You know, you can kill a baby up

to 30 days after it's born. Thank you to the Democrat
00:18:03
majority that are all put into office by the so-called teacher
00:18:07
unions. The teacher unions could say.

Oh, we're not. Hi net, but 100% of the people
00:18:11
they put into office pass that bill.

So of course, they're behind it. So once you start digging into
00:18:18
what the union candidates the people that the Union's of put
00:18:21
into office, like Newsom, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff.

Any super corrupt. Radical Democrat.

That is not representing any one of us.

Any, they're not representing. We, the people I'm not speaking
00:18:37
for us, that are pushing an agenda.

They were put into the office into office by the so-called

government unions especially the teacher unions.

So it's frightening but we could stop it because before we

brought our case and you mentioned the Janice case, so
00:18:52
our case was heard in 2016 and we won oral arguments but the
00:18:58
way the Supreme Court works is you go to oral arguments the
00:19:02
justices privately make a decision.
00:19:04
Then they write the decision and the decision comes out months
00:19:07
later, our case and Little Sisters of the Poor.
00:19:09
Over the two biggest cases of the year so we knew our case
00:19:12
would come out at the end of the term sometime in June.
00:19:14
Well the month after our case was heard Justice Scalia died
00:19:18
and we I mean even our lawyers like what happens when it's
00:19:22
Justice dies? Well what we learned is that one
00:19:25
suggest is dies, you lose that justices vote.
00:19:27
So even though Scalia voted in our favor, we've lost his boat
00:19:31
and we got a 4-4 tie, we had asked the justices to rehear our
00:19:35
case, but at that time, this was during the primaries.
00:19:38
The 20 before the 2016 election, pretty much most people thought
00:19:43
Hillary Clinton was going to win, and I think the justices, I
00:19:46
don't know, I haven't talked to them but I think they thought
00:19:49
good grief. If Hillary wins and we give
00:19:51
these teachers another round at hearing their case and Hilary
00:19:54
puts someone on this court, they're going to lose.
00:19:57
And the set precedence is going to be set in concrete.
00:19:59
We're not going to be able to undo this mess, so they didn't
00:20:02
give us a rehearing. Janice was built on our case.
00:20:06
That Mark Janice is a friend of mine, he was in the court during
00:20:08
oral arguments. Next to my husband saying, I'm
00:20:10
really glad your wife's doing this and I don't have to well,
00:20:13
when Scalia died. All of a sudden, the Janice case
00:20:16
was sitting there waiting. And when, when Trump won and
00:20:20
appointed a conservative Justice, the Janice case, move
00:20:22
forward. So the Janice cases, basically
00:20:25
the friedreich's case just redone.
00:20:28
And so in on June 27th, actually my birthday in 2018 is when the
00:20:33
Janice case 1, so that's when all government employees were
00:20:37
freed from Forced unionism, and United States of America.
00:20:40

government Union, or, you know, someone who's paying a

You said a moment ago about how it's really not the Democrats

and office running things, but rather the unions and you know,

last year was really the year of the mom's running for school

boards, trying to get in and take this over because they were

not going to do this anymore. And they were like Find roll

running. And so I had some friends
