The Getty Family Funded Gavin Newsom's Rise. Here's the Paper Trail.

The Getty Family Funded Gavin Newsom's Rise. Here's the Paper Trail.

In 1973, a San Francisco judge named William Newsom physically delivered ransom money to Italian gangsters on behalf of the Getty family. That same judge later lobbied state legislators to pass a law that unlocked billions inside a locked Getty trust β€” and was named trustee of that trust.

His son went on to start a business with Gordon Getty's son, receive investment from Paul Pelosi's firm, and get appointed to city office by the mayor his restaurant had hosted fundraisers for.

That son is Gavin Newsom, the current governor of California. This is the documented story of four families β€” the Gettys, the Browns, the Pelosis, and the Newsoms β€” and how a century of favors, investments, and inherited access produced the most powerful politician in the state.

California Underground covers the California stories the rest of the media ignores
β€” following the audits, the contracts, the budgets, and the officials responsible
for outcomes that aren't matching the promises. No team. Just receipts.
