California's Housing Crisis: Becerra and Hilton's Plans to Address the Issue

Becerra said his parents came to America with $12. His father was born in Sacramento. Plus: the Becerra–Hilton debate on taxes and housing.

This is chapter one of my play-by-play of the CNN California governor debate between Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton: the first eight minutes, on taxes and housing, with my commentary and the documents. This is my opinion.

WHAT I COVER
- Becerra's "$12" immigrant story, and what his father's obituary says
- Hilton's tax plan (no state income tax on the first $150,000, 8% flat above) and why Becerra's "40% tax cut" is a rate cut from 13.3% to 8%, not 40% off anyone's bill
- Becerra's answer to a cost-of-living question: an attack on Hilton's plan, no proposal of his own, and a turn to Trump
- Housing: Hilton's fee cap and "10 new cities," Becerra's "double the rate," and neither candidate giving a home-building number
- Huntington Beach: Becerra's 2019 suit was settled in 2020. The suit that has since won was Rob Bonta's 2023 suit

I'm not telling you how to vote. Check the documents and decide for yourself.
